About the Artist
Connie Borys is a self-taught artist, born in Regina, living in Winnipeg for the majority of her life. She began in traditional oil painting in the 1960's and has worked through a variety of medium over the last 50 years. For the past decade she has worked primarily in acrylic, watercolour, and ink. Connie's work continues to be inspired by nature and by the rich textures and colours of the Group of Seven and the early impressionists. Her recent exploration of mixed media has resulted in more abstract work, bordering on pure studies of texture and colour. Connie's self-taught mentality has permitted her to remain unencumbered by traditional conventions of the boundaries between figurative art and conceptual art. As such, her work often illustrates a fascinating marriage of stylized figures with abstract forms and colours, that almost always evoke warmth and comfort. Connie's work is in private collections throughout Canada, the United States, and Italy. After splitting her time between the US and Canada for many years she has recently settled year round into her studio near the town of Birds Hill.
